The Western Group stands amongst the Best! "Our studio seeks to innovate new techniques, materials, textures and products with each commission. Collaboration becomes the key to successful architecture and that relationship must begin at the level of fabrication. Over the past 15 years, we have forged close working relationships with many manufacturers. The Western Group stands amongst the best. They explore, research, mock-up and test until the custom product we desire is perfect. They NEVER say ‘no’. In a world where innovation is tough, because standards are the norm, Western Group defies the impossible and takes exceptional care for each of their projects. From a stainless steel floating ceiling plane at ‘georges california modern’ restaurant to the massive façade of the parking garage at the college for creative studies, the expertise of Western Group has ensured the quality of craftsmanship that award winning projects demand." The Western Group worked with LUCE et studio of San Diego, Rich & Associates, Colasanti Construction Services and Jones Lang LaSalle of Detroit to develop the custom 14,000 sq ft woven wire cladding for the College for Creative Studies garage in downtown Detroit MI. The six story garage cladding uses two woven wire specs, a 7/16” x 4” 10ga triple shot intermediate crimp and a 1” x 4” 10ga triple shot intermediate crimp along with The Western Group’s full attachment system for tension screens, all materials are stainless steel. There are 70 8’ x 25’ panels on the garage. The panels are stacked two high with the two specs mixed and matched across the face of the garage to produce a one of a kind cladding design where the screens start with the more open spec at one end of the garage and fade into the tighter spec at the opposite end. The second component of the project is a 770 sq ft ceiling cladding in the 9th floor boardroom which used a 1/8” x 1” 16ga triple shot stainless wire. The screen and attachment systems were manufactured in our Rancho Cucamonga CA plant. Installation was done by CASS Sheet Metal of Detroit. This project can be viewed at 433 Baltimore St and Cass Ave, Detroit MI 48202.
